Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how PinFong Limited ("PinFong," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the WiFi Diag iOS application. WiFi Diag is designed for latency, connection stability, and Wi-Fi roaming diagnostics on enterprise, mesh, and home networks.

In short: WiFi Diag does not read, store, or upload your geographic coordinates. Diagnostic history stays on your device unless you choose to export it.

1. Information and permissions

  • Location permission. iOS requires precise location permission before it provides an app with the current Wi-Fi network name and access point identifier (SSID and BSSID). WiFi Diag uses this permission only to obtain SSID/BSSID information for displaying the connected network and detecting access-point roaming. The app does not request, read, store, or upload latitude, longitude, or other geographic coordinates.
  • Wi-Fi information. When permission is available, SSID and BSSID may be stored in local diagnostic history so that you can review roaming events. BSSID is an access-point identifier, not geographic coordinates.
  • Diagnostic data. Local records may include session start and end times, the selected echo-server address and remark, RTT samples and statistics, timeout or loss results, disconnection and reconnection events, network path type, SSID/BSSID, and roaming events.
  • Notifications. If you allow notifications, WiFi Diag uses local notifications to tell you when a test may be paused in the background. These local notifications do not require your diagnostic history to be uploaded.

2. Echo-server connections

To measure network latency and stability, WiFi Diag sends WebSocket echo probes to the server you select. The probe payload contains a sequence number and timestamp. WiFi Diag does not include your SSID, BSSID, geographic location, or local diagnostic history in that payload.

Any server you connect to necessarily receives your IP address and ordinary connection metadata at the network layer. WiFi Diag includes an OpsMate echo server and a Cloudflare Workers echo server for this feature, and it also lets you add custom servers. The operator and hosting platform of each server may process connection metadata under their applicable policies. If you select an unencrypted ws:// server, probe traffic is not protected by TLS.

3. How information is used

Information handled by the app is used to run the diagnostic test, calculate and display network metrics, identify Wi-Fi access-point changes, show local history, create exports you request, and maintain the security and reliability of the echo service.

4. Local storage and retention

Diagnostic history is stored locally on your device. PinFong does not receive that local database. Records remain until you delete individual history, clear all history in the app, or remove the app. Your device and iOS security settings protect locally stored data.

5. Exports and sharing

WiFi Diag exports diagnostic data only when you initiate a CSV or JSON export. After the iOS share sheet opens, you choose where the file is sent. Information you send to another app, person, storage provider, or service is then subject to the recipient's privacy and security practices.

6. Analytics, advertising, and sale of data

WiFi Diag does not contain advertising or third-party analytics SDKs, does not create an advertising profile, and does not sell or rent your personal information. The app does not require a WiFi Diag account.

7. Your choices

  • You may deny location permission and still test latency and connection stability, but Wi-Fi names, BSSID information, and roaming detection will be unavailable.
  • You may disable notifications; testing still works, but background or lock-screen reminders will be unavailable.
  • You may choose the echo server, manage custom servers, clear local history, and decide whether to export any record.
  • You can review or change permissions in iOS Settings.

8. Children's privacy

WiFi Diag is a general-purpose network diagnostic utility and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the service. No device, network transmission, or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Use only echo servers and export destinations you trust.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app, legal requirements, or our practices change. The updated version will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
